Runnells-Pierce Ranch House

The Runnells-Pierce Ranch House (1958), designed by Hugo V. Neuhaus, Jr. Known for his strict Miesian houses in the 1950s, Neuhaus did this very interesting design for a working ranch house in Matagorda County. It takes cues from vernacular buildings. The long porches extending from either side of the main living pavilion are especially clever and allowed the bedroom and service wings to have cross ventilation on days when the weather was good. It feels like a very elegant country club. Pics from 2007 for the little book I wrote about Neuhaus's houses.
