Swankienda y su Casita

2013-now

We have been working with the long-time owners of a great postwar swankienda* in Houston to prepare it for life in a new century. Originally built for Berthea and Earl Carpenter in 1959, it was designed by noted modern Texas architect Lucian T. Hood, Jr. This house was recently listed as a City of Houston Protected Landmark. Over the years we have made strategic updates and repairs with an aim to conserve both the spirit of the house and its historic material. This has been a multi-faceted project that combines the disciplines of architecture, interior design, historic preservation, and landscape design.

This was a design-build project.

*Swankienda (swanky + hacienda) is a term created by Houston Post society editor Maxine Mesinger to describe a fabulous house.
